Are you up for joining the adventure at St. Swithin’s Lincoln?

Discipleship Year… who is it for?

The Discipleship Year is a great opportunity for a school or graduate leaver (or anyone else) wanting to set aside time to serve the church, discover your gifts and calling and have people invest in you. As well as this, you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of a lively and growing city centre resourcing church in the heart of Lincoln.

What will you be investing?

From September 2018 to July 2019 you will spend 3.5 days a week with us (including Sunday and Tuesday) where you will:

» serve in one main stream, with opportunities to gain experience in others
» be part of our Sunday service team (serving at 6 out of 12 services a month)
» be responsible for your own spiritual life and commit to deepening your relationship with God throughout the year
» muck in with the team on the small everyday tasks as well as the bigger projects

What will we invest in you?

» Theological training streamed from St. Mellitus
» Onelife Leadership Training: developing character, equipping to lead, impacting society
» Opportunity to attend conferences (including Focus) and training relevant to your role
» You’ll be part of the staff team which means encouragement, support, banter and joining in with staff gatherings
» We’ll help you find a mentor for the year
» There’ll be an opportunity to go on a mission trip to Africa (you’ll need to find funds for this)
» Hands on experience of working for a church, opportunities to develop your gifts and skills, pushing you out of your comfort zone in a safe environment

» Students
» Youth
» Kids
» Worship
» Ops
» Media and Production
» Alpha
» Home (work with street community & prison Alpha)

The little details…

» The year will run from week beginning 2nd September 2018 until the end of Focus 2019
» You’ll be a volunteer, rather than an employee, it’ll be a relationship of mutual trust rather than a contract
» It’s free, but you will not receive financial support from St. Swithin’s Church
» You may need to find a part-time job to support yourself throughout the year and we will work with you to try and fit church work around your employment
» Your week will involve varied daytime, evening and weekend hours
» You’ll need to find accommodation. We can try and help you find someone in church to put you up, but we cannot be held responsible for this
» You will be encouraged to take 20 days holiday during the year plus public holidays
» Closing date for applications is Thursday 17 May 2018

* the plan is subject to change throughout the year
